Transition Time
It is that time of the year again. The children are busy with transition in their new classes. Transition has taken place today and we have the children into their new classes. It is important for all parents to know that we have a strong pastoral support system in school and as the children settle into their new classes please let the class teacher or Mrs Jennings (our Pastoral Manager) know of any concerns.
Thank you
Thank you for all of the words of support and encouragement following on from our Ofsted report. The school leadership team had a productive strategic planning day on Monday. Watch this space for news of how we aim to move the school forward onto even better things in the future.
ICE CREAM VAN
The ice cream van will be coming into school on Thursday 21st July and the children in Reception to Year 6 will be able to buy an ice cream.
Any child who would like to buy an ice cream must bring £1 into school on the day.

Science day
By Grace A
Science day was so much fun. I loved it because there were so many good things happening. I loved it when we did the nature bingo in the Secret Garden. We had to find flowers and dead leaves.
Also I loved it when we did bubble experiments.
We got to make loads of mess.
We did an experiment where we put a polo mint into a can of coke and then it exploded like a volcano.
SCIENCE DAY WAS THE BEST DAY EVER! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN.
Well done
Amelia Taylor, Emma Moore, Freya Haslam, Isobel Ward, Joe Black and Sidonie Malcher Akesson represented school in the District Finals on Wednesday 22nd June. We played against three very strong teams in Midgley, Woodhouse and Old Earth.
The results were:
- Northowram 0 – 4 Midgley
- Woodhouse 4 – 1 Northowram
- Old Earth 3 – 1 Northowram
The team showed some fantastic resilience and determination. Some found it frustrating after the Calderdale Finals as the teams were undefeated in that competition.
Mrs Bowman and I are extremely proud of how well the children performed and it is a fantastic achievement getting through to play in the District Finals. Well done to all the children.
Thanks Sarah Rushforth
BOOK BAGS
We currently have no stock of book bags left in school and will order some more and confirm when these are available to purchase. You can purchase book bags direct from Tesco online.
The bags may not be available until after we have broken up for the Summer holidays – look out on Northowram PTFA Facebook page for information about how to buy.

Safeguarding Children
At Northowram School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all members of the school community to share this commitment. Our school actively promotes fundamental British values. This commitment includes staff, governors, volunteers and contractors working on the school site.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and these can be found on our website.
Sometimes we need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.
Jane Jennings is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She is the lead person in our school and the person to contact if you have concerns about a child. Mrs Scardifield and Mr Lomas are also Designated Safeguarding Leads. Canon James Allison is our Safeguarding Governor.
